A highlight of this trip was to get to see some friends of mine that I met in Master’s Commission. They live in Richmond which is a little over two hours from Lynchburg. It sure felt like they were too close to miss out on seeing, so we met halfway for dinner in Farmville.
It really was so much fun. I am so happy I got to see them. Rachael was a 2nd year student when I was a first year student. She really was like a sister to me and I was thankful for her from day one. Kris was also a 2nd year student and he started dating Rachael part way through the year.
Anyways, I wish I was at home so I could put a picture of Rachael and I back then and then a picture of us now. But here are the pictures of us now.

Here is Mayah the morning we woke up in Atlanta. I felt so bad waking this precious sleeping baby, but we had to go catch our plane! Luckily she woke up in a great mood, despite the little sleep she got.

I have to say, I am so glad I decided to have Mayah travel in her BabyLegs, it made diaper changes so easy on the flights, PLUS it was so warm on the plane and in the airports that she would have been all hot and sweaty with any more on.
I’m sorry I have been very tired from traveling and busy getting ready for my class that started today, so I haven’t really been blogging. I am really liking it here in Lynchburg Virginia. We are here at Liberty University so that I can take two intensive classes towards my Master’s. I really like the overall feel of the campus and the area. I actually feel like I could easily live here, although that isn’t the plan, so don’t worry.
I will take more pictures of the Lynchburg area, but here is one of the hill over the Lynchburg area. Liberty University is clearly a big part of this community.

Here is Mayah wearing her cute new hat my mom made her for the trip. Isn’t it adorable?

So, here is the rest of our story…. when we flew from Atlanta to Roanoke, we picked up our rental car and headed to the Lynchburg airport to pick up our bags. When we got there, we found out the bags had not made the flight either, so they had been sitting in Atlanta! This frustrated me beyond words since we could have had our bags that night AND taken them with us on the plane and would have had them right when we checked in in Lynchburg. Unfortunately, we had to wait to see if they were even on the one flight into that airport at 10pm. So we checked into our hotel and sat around, much needing a shower and change of clothes! We did some shopping at Walmart and then around 10, Kyle checked and YES! They came on the flight! So, he drove to get them (there was no way we were waiting any longer for some bags that were less than 10 minutes down the road). Here is the picture I snapped as Kyle re-entered the room. I was happy and so was he.

Here is our rental car… kinda fun to try a car out for a few weeks.

I also found some cute shoes for Mayah that I couldn’t pass up….

We ate at Sonic yesterday, which is always a treat since we don’t have one in our area of Washington.

I did take some pictures of the University, but I think I will save those for my next post.
Thanks for commenting, it’s fun to know who reads!

Ahhh… so we had a decent start to the day. We got to the airport, Mayah took a nap before our flight. Everything seemed to be going pretty good.

Mayah was in a great mood, and for that I am thankful.

We got on our flight, Mayah ate as week took off, and a lot through the flight. It was about 4 hours long and she ate a few times, which is unusual for her in a 4 hour period, but I wanted her to be quiet AND I didn’t want her ears to be hurting. She did sooo good overall. Everyone was commenting on how good she was, even though she let out a few quick squeals. There was a baby towards the front of the plane that cried a lot, so I was glad that wasn’t Mayah!
Here is a picture of us on her first flight ever. She looks so enthused, ha ha. Oh well, she wasn’t really as sad as she looked in the picture, just tired.

Shortly after the pic, I started feeling a little sick. A headache, lightheaded…not normal for me as a flier. I don’t have trouble ever. I wonder if this is something I can thank having a baby to. So many things are different since I had Mayah, who knows….As we landed in Atlanta, I fed Mayah, to help her ears not hurt. As soon as we hit the ground, I had the sudden urge to get sick! Ahh….you know you aren’t supposed to move around when you are taxiing to the gate. I handed Mayah to Kyle and really focused on not throwing up. I finally got through that ok, but got an instant headache after it all. It went away a while later, but it was so weird and so terrible. So, as we got off the plane, Kyle and I grabbed our bags and picked up the stroller/carseat from gate check. We rushed through the airport, stopped to get some water at Starbucks (Kyle thought I might be dehydrated a little) and the city mug, of course, because I DO collect them all!

Then we raced to our gate, thinking we were still ok on time. We didn’t realize the gate was a long ways away, like on the train and running down the hallways long. With a baby in the sling, the stroller/carseat combo and our carry-ons… NOT FUN! We got to our gate to find it had been changed, ran back to the new gate (a few from this one) to find out the plane had already pulled away from the walkway. We were SO upset. For one, it seemed like it was leaving earlier than it was scheduled or it was right on time and we were just a tad late, or something. Turns out our flight we had come from had delayed just enough to make sure we couldn’t have gotten there in time. The problem was due to air traffic I guess. There were others who were on our flight from Seattle that were headed to Lynchburg that missed the connection as well.
So…we missed our flight, and Lynchburg only has one flight per day from Atlanta, so we were told they’d put us on tomorrows flight (which only had one seat, so Kyle was on stand-by) but suggested we check into flying to Roanoke instead and driving to Lynchburg. So, I had to get on a courtesy phone and call. We now have tickets to Roanoke for tomorrow AM, and will get there, get our rental there and then drive to the Lynchburg airport to get our bags.
This may sound like the end of our story, but it isn’t. We got a voucher for a hotel in Atlanta, so we headed to get the shuttle. We ended up waiting for like 45 minutes, outside in this covered area where all hotel shuttles come. Supposedly our shuttle comes every half hour, but I am doubtful of that. I saw it driving by as we walked out there and another didn’t come for a LONG time. Mayah was sleeping in her seat til one of the shuttles laid on the horn and freaked her out. She never really settled down after that so I finally picked her up and she kinda moaned for a while as we waited.I felt so bad for her, she didn’t take a nap since the Seattle airport and was so tired. She was being so good for how tired I know she was.
We finally made it here to our hotel and will be leaving at 6AM Atlanta time (3AM Washington time) to go to the airport for our short flight up to Virginia. I will be so glad to get there. I hope tomorrow brings better experiences than today did. ALthough, I am still thankful for Mayah be so good and patient throughout the long day. She really was a doll and made many friends on the airplane and in the airports.
So, that is it for today, hopefully better news tomorrow!
Oh, and Happy Birthday to my brother Ben!
